Hemand Backseat Bicycle Basket

This is a plastic basket designed by or for a Dutch shop, Hema, that looks like the basket you use in a supermarket or grocery shop, but adapted for fitting on the luggage carrier of a bike. They even won a prize for it. Combining shops's name Hema and Dutch for basket, mand, the called it Hemand. As you can see it hangs part over for extra stability and is easily attached and detached with the bungy cords, so you can quickly take it in a shop and put it back on with your groceries. I tried it out but there was not enough storage space in it for me.

Despite the award the thing is not for sale anymore. I was happy to get rid of it at €3, to someone who did love it, but who's old one was broken.

Rubbermaid Yellow Laundry Basket

As of today I'm still using the pale yellow laundry basket that I found in the trash 1987 or so still inhabiting the previous apartment. The blue one is somewhere in my yard collecting dirt. I'll have to clean it and inspect it one of these days to see if it's salable, or maybe good for thrift shop. The grey one is holding 'stuff' I don't need. As an extra I have the pink wicker basket I couldn't get rid of.

I easily got rid of this umpteenth. Listed end of Februari 2017, sold €3 03-22. Fair price, the cheapest I found on line right now was €18 and smaller!

French Style Folding Bistro Chairs

When I spotted these in front of my door they didn't look great, but at closer inspection they turned out to be intact and stable. Just needed a really good sand and paint job. First bidder came very quickly and asked if I could ship them which was a no go for such big things. Not to worry soon a couple came by car from a nearby town (Haarlem) to pick them up, making me €20 richer. Not a bad deal.

Cute Aluminium Vintage Pan

When I picked this up in front of my door my first thought was very vintage, but the curly shaped ears and lid handle could make it Arabic. But the sign on the bottom clarified that. Definitely European, but no internet search came up with any results. Too bad, sometimes you have to live with that. Surely it was old but apparently made by some very small local and forgotton producer. Sold € 4.

Original Painting With Three Little Soccer Players

Found March 2017 by my neighbour. So cute and signed, but as far as readable nothing to be found about the artist on internet. It doesn't look like amateur work to me, however I had to let it go in the end for €5.

IKEA Alseda Banana Leaf Pouffe

I must have found this earlier in 2017, because I remember keeping it for a while thinking my cats would love it to sleep on. I guess they tried but it wasn't a keeper. So despite the discolouring from weather and light damage I listed it after all and then to my surprise sold it the next day €7,50!

Bamboo Serving Tray And Dish

Serving trays are not the best selling items in the thrift shop, but to be honest I live small so I don't need one. And most apartments in my neighbourhood are small so the inhabitants won't need one.

Therefore happy enough to finally after four months find a new owner for this bamboo model in mint condition at €2,50. Not much but it's what I would have stuck on it in the shop. But probably I shipped to a place outside town.

When I found this large extra large dish made of rolled up bamboo strips around the same time in 2017 it was a first seen for me. Sold quickly €5. These days they are too common, nine out of ten times from IKEA (though mine was not) and even hard to get rid of in the shop, and the next one I'd find I would bring there as well.

Pretty Plant

Going through 2017 photo's I found this saved from my front door trash. So cute, but I never found out what plant it was. Leaves kind of lavender-ish, but the flowers? Unfortunately it didn't last. And later pot cracked probably from frost. But I enjoyed having it while it lasted.

1970's Swivel Based Footstool

This truely 1970's item was not in great shape, but damage only on the seat so sttill functionable and you rarely see them anymore so I thought it was worth taking it in and as it was in front of the door as usual no trouble.

It took about three months to sell, good enough, no second listing necessary, and as I remember well a student came for it for her first flat or room. Possibly reminded her of things seen in grandparent's place. I like that. As probably needed repairs made it not interesting for a reseller or collector.

Wicker Children's Bicycle Seat

You rarely see these anymore. Yet this one my Man brought home in 2017 looked fairly new so I guess they still make them. They were common in my childhood and protective for baby feet. So useful... My kindergarten classmate ended in hospital once because her heel landed between the spokes of her mothers bicycle wheel because they thought they could do without! My mom had one for me one like this one with protective foot rests that did the job. I remember her lifting me up to be placed in between the iron bars not liking it, I may have found the wicker more comfoting. I don't like the modern day plastic things that almost look like baby car seats, however comfy they may be.

Took a little while but sold €10 after three montths.

Elfstedentocht Poster - The Eleven Cities Tour

If you're not Dutch you may have never heard about the Elfstedentocht. You may have if you're an ice skating fan. If I made you curious look here.

I found the map with the tour route, likely issued as a promotional gift by Tetterode, an historic Dutch printing company on a complete poster sized sticker carefully rolled up in it's original cilinder casing. Supporting paper underneath had shrunk with age, causing the folds. But I was sure if carefully done the picture could be transferred perfectly to a solid surface. Someone thought so too and helped me to lose it at €2 within 3 days.

Saint-Gobain Miralite Bathroom Mirrors

Somewhere early 2017 the Man came home with a pile of standard sized 60 x 40 cm sized mirrors. There were six or maybe more. The kind I have in my social rental apartment. Normally not expensive, I just looked them up and found the cheapest just under €12. But the brand Saint-Gobain promises a way higher quality. Just can't find my size on their website anymore. Problem was some were slightly chipped on the sides.

I had just listed them when my friend from down the street came by and asked if she could have them. To line the lower part of the wall in her hallway. Something to do with cats stopping to scratch wallpaper. Of course she could after all the stuff her guy Freek gave me to sell!

Wicker Basket Nr XX

A couple of days ago I posted about this basket and thought I found it in admin sold October 2017, but it wasn't the one. Now I just found it, and I'm sure it's correct because desribed 'rough basket'. What happened to the other one I really don't remember!

Italian Pastry Tableware

This is one of the last things I sold in 2018, but I had had it for so long I couldn't find the photo's. Going back in history picture by picture down the list I just stumbled upon them. Photographed on the dish rack that sold sooner after.

This is fairly common Italian glassware and I see it still coming in the thrift shop sometimes. I had or have seen cups and saucers same style. Or perhaps they came with the set and I sold them on a market.

But I thought a complete pastry set was special enough to sell on line. Turns out now it took over 1,5 years to find a buyer. Cash in my pocket a poor €5, but never mind. I remember a lady at the door being thrilled about it!

Wicker Basket Nr X

Despite some minor damage, saved from destruction €2 October 2017. Just glad it found a home.

Canadian Footwear Trekking Or Hiking Boots

Waterproof outdoor sports boots in good condition, found May 2017. Took a while to sell, but they went early October €20 after first bid. Reminded me of this pair that was a bit harder to get rid of. It was fun to read that old post again!

Dishwashing Rack

Who'd buy this second hand by internet? Well I had people in the thrift shop looking for one one and had to sell no, because simply that day not available. So you look on line and someone three streets away from you offers one and you can come pick it up for €1. That was me and someone nearby saved money and the environment by buying something that would have been destroyed otherwise instead of brandnew.

Embroidered Tablecloths

Edit post 2024-012-01: found cream coloured cloth still in my closet, looking for textiles to bring to recycle shop, Droppie. Something new in my neighbourhood. But the cloth is too nice for it. Will give another try to sell. Perhaps Christmas will help! Otherwise thrift shop later on.

Here are two tablecloths my friend Judy found in her neighbourhood while walking the dog and gave to me to sell. Profit to share of course. Both new never used. Though (part) machine made and not my taste, of fine quality. This smaller square one with yellow flowers went after three months June 2017 at €5.

This large all cream coloured never sold and honestly I don't remember where it went. Most likely donated to giveaway shop.

By the the way that giveaway shop was closed when covid hit in 2020 and then never reopend. A pity, but now on top, the Buurtboerderij on which premises it was located, recently was almost completetely destroyed by fire. At the thrift shop, a fundraiser for social work in the neighbourhood, we consider the place as a fellow organisation. Rebuilding plans are there, but it will take a long time.

Brabantia Beschuitbus

You need to be Dutch or to live in Holland to know what beschuit is. To store the traditional round dry bread slices we also have special metal boxes. You can find them as old as from like early 1900, but you can still buy them new. Vintage ones in good condition are ever so wanted. This one is from the Seventies and modern for its time, because it already had the lift to pull up the slices. Like in coffee pad boxes from these days.

I remember a student picking it up at my door as a present for his girlfriend, who as he told me loved and collected anything Seventies and especially in orange. Found March 2017, sold April €2,50. Not much but I was happy at the time.

Just The Right Box

So I had to ship the rainmaker. Wrapped it in double layer of a thin sort of foam that I still had, once curb found. Then went lookin for a box. Nothing that was large enough in my house! Started thinking about alternatives like just plastic, maybe trash bags but didn't like the idea. Then my eye caught someting in the corner of my living room. A still wrapped small Christmas tree, I had never even opened the box yet, that I found earlier this year. Pulled the tree out and it looked almost good as new. Stored unwrapped now to sell later or to keep to replace my large tree that I haven't used in years because I have no place to set it up anymore.

The long narrow box was the exact size that I needed!

Bamboo Rainmaker #2

Yay, my first sale in years. Shortly I shared the link to my revived sales account, today I received order and payment for this rainmaker. I had it for years. It doesn't look great, but the damage at the bottom is of no influence. It sounds great and all it really needs is a new coat of varnish. Addition to my bank account €10.

I had a smaller one that was way prettier that sold in 2016 €5.

Plush Cuddle Couch Cushion

I don't remember if I washed at least the cover of this large cushion. Something I'd normally do with found textiles but it would have destroyed the softness of the plush, unless you brush that but it may take away fibres. Probably it was just that clean. Listed March 2017, sold €5 just over after a week.

Heineken Beer Sweater And T-Shirt 'On The Rocks'

From the bag with the caps : skiing themed promo garments, sold within two weeks without much hassle. First listed as a set but without pics...
