Simple Wicker Table Lamp Shade

I can't remember when, but maybe even close to ten years ago I brought a wicker lamp shade home from nearby that was painted in an ugly matt orange, even close to a red lead iron base, so I spray painted it in silver wih an equally curb found can. Took it to several markets but never got rid of it. Then some years ago I took it to the thrift shop where it remained on the shelf for months. When it finally dissappeared I didn't know if it was sold or thrown out to make place for new or better stuff. And honestly I didn't care much.

So to my surprise a short while ago I found this photo in a local Facebook group: someone offering the three table lamps for free pick-up. Though it's hard to see it's silver if you don't know it, I so recognized the shape of my shade in the middle! And happy to know that after the buyer had enough of it hopefully found another destination.

Steinhauer Reading Lamp

An older model from the Steinhauer light range, but with LED lamp as far as I can judge. Working. Needed wall fixation so for a person who could get that done somehow. Value new over €70. Sold after four months €9, not much but I was happy at the time.

Dutch Made Seventies Floor Lamp Woja

I did not give this a lot of chance. See the wear, and without plug. But surely Seventies and of unique made from a small workplace, Uithoorn, near Amsterdam.

To my surprise I was able to let it go quickly at a bid of €10.

Cheap IKEA Floor Lamp

Here's an example of a product that honestly I think should have never been produced. IKEA. I don't say all they sell is crap. If you look around on my blog you can see I found adn sold a lot of nice IKEA stuff. But for me this is an example of fooling people.

First sight said: cute! That's why I took it in. But though the glass base looks stable, the pole is very thin and light weight, its attachment to the base was feeble and therefore likely to tilt. The shade closing with poppers, was fragile and after waiting for so long in my place for a buyer, somehow it damaged and I finally retrashed the whole thing. It's sad, but my idea is that someone who can't afford a better quality new floor lamp can better look second hand in the first place, or just temporaly do without.

Another IKEA Alang Lampshade

In 2016 I found the complete floor lamp with shade. I see the post is from March and I said buyer cancelled for the moment. Admin says sold €15 June 2016. I guess another buyer came later.

From 2017 same shade but alone and a tiny stain, other colour. Found July 2017, sold October €2. Recently I saw a couple of the grey shades donated to the thrift shop. At IKEA website I read the design was launced 2001. Currently I only see Alang ceiling lamps no more floor lamps.

Vintage Terracotta Lamp Base

I really loved this, but too chunky for my tiny flat to keep.

Interesting hand crafted base for wiring. But it's possibly a reconstruction. It looks newer than the pot.

But then the wire at the bottom here seemed to be not so new. Shade was not for sale, I guess it was stained or broken. Used just for the sales picture on the good side. 

But I'll never know if the whole product was handicraft from flower pot to lamp base, or handy repair work. Found July 2017, sold December €5.

Giant Wooden Lamp Foot

This is a very lovely piece of turned wood that I found in my street August 2017. I forgot how tall it was but close to 1,5 m. It's a lamp foot but all the wiring had been taken out. Not sure why as the object looked vintage, but certainly not antique.

There was some wear but for me it adds to the charm of a product made of natural material. Like leather. Not a quick sell but finally in October somebody handy or crafty came to pick it up and paid €10 to restore or use for another project. 

IKEA Calypso Lamp

My job is part time, between 4-6 hours a day, which is all I can handle, but it is on a different location every day. For the past five years it involved a lot of traveling time, up to 2,5 hours. On top hours are late afternoon and evening. I didn't mind, but to get rid of government aid I had to upgrade to five days. That's where all side activities came to a hold. Except for the thrift shop. Meaning actually working six days part time. Things have changed for the moment and I get planned in more locally. It helped pushing myself to bring the laptop computer with me to the Mans apartment every night I'm off. And blog again. For now I rely ond old finds and photo's. Enough to show. New things will come one day.

Found May 2018. Sold €10 July that year.

But funny found just now, looking for the new price and if still available: there was a return call in September 2018 due to hazard. Of course I don't know if my product was from before after August 2016. Hope my buyers had no issues. Or used the action to get a new procuct, as a receipt wasn't needed.

Cute Little Chandelier

In my memory we stopped doing big trash tours before 2018, but this lamp sure came from the adjoining neighbourhood. So maybe from a small tour on my own or picked up passing by on my bike.

It's fairly small, diameter around 30 cm, plastic beads, looks inexpensive, kind of North African style but intact. And just cute. Photo 2018/06/10. Sold 06/20 €10.

Some Lamps And A New Market Season - And Clearing Out A Bit

Well you must think I’m a terrible blogger! It’s been months again. Now I’ve got some time left as my friend canceled our market plans for today. With two boys moving out she’s got other things on her mind. I wonder what her house is going to look like when they take out all the 'trash' she's collected for them over the years. I hope to clear out a bit more too. Sales are a bit slow as I've been lazy with listing, but I haul in selectively now and less than goes out. 

Here are some lamps I was happy to sell recently and earlier on:

A while ago I woke up to a message about this little lamp foot. Less than two hours later it was picked up. I like it when things go smoothly like that!

But it took almost a year, and not being very big I stored it on a shelf in my lounge where it really started to get in my way.

I had even more trouble getting rid of this retro ceiling lamp.

The oil lamp model is popular with vintage lovers, but I’m afraid the Seventies colours just didn’t appeal to anybody. Listed October 2015, sold June 2017… That was one big box out of my storage.

On the other hand this chandelier was out, early last year, within two months. To my surprise because it wasn’t in great condition. First, it was really left for trash, covered in dust and cobwebs with broken bulbs still in the sockets. I took it home because the model is sought after.

After cleaning it I found rusty bits, the yellowed plastic candles were crumbling at the edges and most of the gold plate shine was off the brass. Somehow it appealed to a young lady who paid a very decent price. Thank god, as the clumsy shape didn't fit anywhere and I had to keep it in my bedroom!

Talking markets again here are some items that didn’t go out on line over winter but sold in April at our first event this year:

A diet recipe book in Dutch translation.

Incomplete set of wooden bricks. Practically gave them away to a six-year old who paid from her pocket money for her three-year old brother.

One straw party hat in our flag's colours. Days before the national Holiday I thought it would be a good idea to bring them along.

A dull French Seventies salad bowl.

Plus all the things I never deemed worthy of photographing. 

So though it was sad we couldn't go today, I filled the one nearly empty market bag with random picks from shelves, cupboards, the yard and even my floor. Restored away I'm ready for the next market and the mess alreay out of sight. Then I had time to list a recent find, and to make an appointment for a sale at the door:

As I woke up to the message I could pull this large candle tray straight out of the market bag, then after my friend's call I made the appointment and it was gone before noon. Not a bad day after all!

More From 2016 Part VIII - Zadie Smith

The weather last Sunday was way to hot to attract huge crowds to the market, but we came home with a profit nonetheless and I lost a fair load of shoes and some men's clothes.

My only photo is of this H&M vest that I decided not to list after all.

So on with the rest of trash finds sold last year:

An analog Soehnle scale. I thought they were almost obsolete and only took it for the markets. Then found the exact same model is still available retail, though inexpensive. Listed and succeeded. Not everyone wants things with batteries that can go flat.

I thought this newspaper holder was horrendous, but it sold in a week. There are collectors of copper items even though this is just a coat over iron.

The expat I spoke about in a previous post also left me a small collection of 1980-s comics. I got silly bids from young kids, but expected that and paid no attention. In the end someone serious wanted the whole lot and I made him a fair price for that.

I forgot if Zadie was in his lot as well, or in the bag next to the board games. Anyway she remained unhandled for a while because the title wasn't in the database of the site where I have my book account. On cold wet days last winter I just sat and scanned piles of such books, trying to get some business in a period where I couldn't do any photography. This was one of the successes that sold within two weeks.

A brand new bamboo mat brought in by the Man. Now I thought this would fly out but it took seven months.

This marble board was near new too, but it had a blob of dried out paint on it that had to be scraped off, which left a matt place. As they are popular to roll out cake toppings I was afraid it might not go, but it was bought to make a memorial tablet so it didn't matter.

That's it, but not all. I found some items I forgot about that sold on the last markets last year to fill up the post.

A skin covered primitive lamp shade. Flogged it but glad I didn't have to take it out twice.

From a different angle. You can see it's not in great shape. I had it since February and really wanted it out of the house.

A jar shaped vase. The text says Mason's Vintage Jars.

And last, a cute door rack. It came with the bamboo mirror.

More From 2016 Part VI - The Blues King

I should really organize and pack for Sunday, our first car boot sale of the year. I hope to unload a bulk there, but first I want to unload a bit more from the 2016 list.

I kept this rusty old bucket in my yard for years. I still like it but it was in my way and in need to downsize you shouldn't be afraid to let go of your favourite stuff. Once listed it was gone quickly.

A low bar stool. For another teenage girl's bedroom.

A very slightly cracked bamboo cutting board. Still perfectly usable. They are inexpensive but popular. As often I was surprised someone paid shipping to get it home.

A Johnson Blues King mouth organ. From an expat who probably went home or moved on. He left loads of stuff in a box labeled 'free stuff all working'. Mostly tools that I kept for myself. I was already looking through them when he came down again and brought books, that were all about music and a lot of them sold for good prices already.

It took me eleven months to get rid of this pouf. It was brand new but perhaps black isn't popular for small furniture...

as proves this vintage end table that sat in my storage for about eight months.

Where a cute little garden table the same size was out in a day in the last warm week of the year.

I photographed this IKEA Spontan magazine rack the same day, using the table as a support as it happened be there. The rack also sold the next day, I'm wondering now if it was to the same person. Probably not, it would have stuck in my memory somehow.

These lamp shades were brand new, but I didn't expect to sell them fast. When I finally did the bid was twice as much as hoped for. If you look closely you can see they are adjustable for use on a foot or to hang from the ceiling.

A cute little embroidery. One of the last things I expected to sell on line. Didn't get much, but still better than flea market would have done.

It went back to the area where it was framed and most likely made.

The embroidery came along with these two mini wall hangings that I sold at the market last year. I think they were all bought in our local thrift shop before they were trashed.
